I have come to the realization that when adding seasonings during cooking, no one has even a remote idea of what to do. It seems like every recipe just calls for you to add a little bit of all of them because, well, why not? If you're gonna add some oregano, your cumin is gonna feel slightly left out, and everyone knows that if you give a dish cumin, it's gonna ask for some paprika too. Adding seasonings is neither an art or a science; it's more of an, "Eh, this will probably work, right?" And there's absolutely nothing wrong with this. I COMPLETELY support winging it. I just always imagined there would be a bit more intention to this part of the cooking process beyond just "make it rain."

I am most certainly wrong about this. I've just yet to see the proof.
