Speaking of: The Solo Concert

I go to concerts by myself a lot. It's not that I necessarily prefer that. It's just that I like a lot of artists and bands that none of my friends care for, and I don't wanna drag them to a show they don't wanna see, but more than that, I definitely don't want to miss a show that I want to see just because there's no one to go with. Screw that. You don't talk to other people during concerts anyways. It's not a wine tasting.
So I've grown completely comfortable doing this routine — buying tickets to a show, going to the venue, standing by myself for three hours, getting my ears blown off by some indie band, and then going home, sometimes without really telling anyone. And occasionally I do wonder if other people think I'm weird for doing that, and occasionally I have to remind myself that people think I'm weird for a wide array of reasons and, even at its worst, the concert one probably wouldn't even crack the top ten.
But if I really have to justify it to myself further, I think about it this way: why is it realistically any different than binge watching a Netflix show by yourself for three hours? Removing the fact that one is far more socially conventional than the other, aren't both just fun forms of entertainment that can totally be done independently?
And once I think about it that way, usually in about the fifth song of the concert's set, I say to myself, "Screw Netflix. This is way better."
